Neuspeed Sport Springs / Bilstien Sport Shocks By: Eric Eisenbud Email: poipu@home.com (Dec-99) Make & model of car the product was used on: 99.5 A4 2.8 QM Description: Lowering, stiffer springs I wasn't happy with the stock non-sport A4 suspension so I upgraded to a stiffer, more aggresive handling set-up. I chose the Bilstien sport shocks mostly because my past experience with them in a VW Jetta was excellent. Having no experience with sport springs however, led me to go on other peoples thoughts and opinions. The other factor was, of course, money. I think the $730.00 investment was well worth it. The negatives are few but they are worth mentioning: there is a certain amount of "luxury" feeling that is sacrificed when trying to improve handling. The bumps in the road and the potholes are more apparent, as are the slight natural undulations that are in evcery highway in America. They definately become more pronounced. Most of wich we probably didn't even know existed because they were absorbed by our kinder, gentler suspensions. The positives, in my opinion, far outweigh the negatives: The Ear-to-ear smile producing turns that are now possible make me forget about a few hard bumps, and even the $$$. When I feel like getting a little crazy by seeing how fast I can take this turn, I am pleasantly satisfied. But the real joy is when I drive at normal speeds, which for me has become a couple of mph's higher, and I can now take turns EFFORTLESSLY. I do alot less braking before going into turns, and generally enjoy the 8 hours a day I spend in my A4 (lucky me!!) a whole lot more. |
