LLtek
Lowering Springs with Bilstein Sport Shocks By: aron Hanson Email: NA (Nov-01) Make & model of car the product was used on: 96 A4 2.8 Quattro I came from a RX-7 background with a rock hard suspension that really stuck to the ground. When I bought my Audi I wanted it to handle like a BMW M3. The existing suspension felt more like a mini van than a race winning German sports sedan. In addition to being very soft, the 96 quattro seems to have the highest stance of all the A4s. I don't have specific measurements but I could easily fit my whole hand between the top of the tire and the fender. The new LLtek system looks great and was easy to install when compared to the fight I had on the RX-7! The LLtek set-up has a slight rake to it that presses the front end toward the ground. The front now has an extremely aggressive stance that has prompted many A4 owners to ask me what I did to it. I can barely get 1 finger between the wheel and fender now. LLtek states that their system was specifically designed to fit the North American A4. They stated that many other set ups were designed to fit Euro A4s. It is probably better to call them to find out about the differences. It is a vast improvement over stock although it is still not as stiff as an M3. I can hug turns now as apposed to slothing through them. I still get a bit more body roll than I would like. But, the springs are a progressive rate so the more I push them the more they firm up. They still absorb the bumps keeping the wheels firmly on the ground even during extreme cornering. Normal ride is close to stock and I can get as spirited as I like. I get none of the jarring the other reviews speak of. I would highly recommend the system to anyone although I would prefer something a little stiffer, " must be my RX-7 heritage." Although, now I can feel how Audi's suspension systems have enabled them to win so many races. Even my dealership has made comment about how much they like the system. As a after thought, I was able to correct the extra body roll with an LLtek front sway bar and LLtek strut tower brace. The bar and brace also improved steering response but that's another review. |
