Dunlop Sport A2 Tires By: Dave Richardson Email: superdaver@earthlink.net (Feb-03) Make & model of car the product was used on: '00 2001 A4 1.8t Sedan With Factory Sport Package After reading a positive review in Consumer Reports Magazine. I replaced a set of Dunlop SP5000 225/50/16 tires after 25,000 miles and went back to the original factory size 205/55/16 in the newer Dunlop Sport A2. I was unhappy with the rougher ride of the SP5000, the road noise and a little disappointed in the 320 tread wear. Although I did like the look of the wider 50 size of the SP5000 on the car. With only 250 miles in both wet and dry winter conditions in NC, I have been extremely pleased with the A2's. First thing I noticed was the improved ride quality, my car now feels more comfortable over uneven pavement and road imperfections. Not sure if this is due to the sidewall construction or what, but definite improvement. The A2's are also significantly quieter. I realize that this may be somewhat attributed to their being new. However, I believe the tread design and the slightly narrower width of the factory size may also be a factor here. Furthermore, the car see ms a little lighter on its feet with the A2's and sharpens the steering feel from tracking in worn road depressions that the wider SP5000 seemed to transmit to the steering wheel. The A2's have a 420 tread wear rating, so I am hopeful to see an improvement in the longevity over the SP5000s. In summary, thus far I am very pleased with the A2's. Paid $420 balanced and installed from local tire dealer. |
