These tires are phenomenal. The level of dry and wet grip is extremely impressive given the relatively low cost of the tires. Tire Rack rated the wet traction just below the more expensive Pole Position SO-2's and the dry traction was rated higher. They also noted less tire wear after a day at the track. After 5k miles they barely look worn, and some of the mileage I put on at Watkins Glen International Raceway. On the highway the tires are quieter than the Pirelli P7000 SS's they replaced. Ride comfort is good, with a bit of thumping over expansion joints. The tires do tend to tramline a bit in ruts, so you do need to pay attention on rough roads. I would strongly recommend these tires to anyone considering a high performance summer tire.

Product Description: Yokohama AVS Sport 235/45/17

After lots of research, web surfing and messageboard posts, I elected to buy the AVS Sport for my M5 as a nice compromise in terms of price and performance. FYI, my car has 234/45/17's stock and the AVS Sports were $170 each (America's Tire Co. matched Tire Rack). Pole Positions would have been $219, Pilot Sports $253 and PZeros $220+.

Ride quality: definitely stiffer than my previous Pilot SX-GT's but not objectionable. They have a pretty stiff sidewall as evidenced by very little rollover during my first-ever autocross (my car weighs 3800lb's unladen). I am running a little lower pressures for everyday driving (Dinan springs with Bilsteins).

Noise: very quiet tire. My RE71's on my track wheels literally whine at speeds over 70mph. These are quiet.

Turn in: awesome vs. my previous tire and better than the RE71's.

Dry grip: equal to or better than the Pilots and a bit better than the RE71's (they are pretty sticky with only a 140 treadware rating).

Wet weather: no comparison to any other tire I have had. They are phenomenal and just below the S02 in Tire Rack's tests. Compared to the Michelins these tires are good for two more years without gray hair.

I ran them at an autocross and my car plowed noticeably less than many cars running that day. I don't know if it was because my air pressure was correct but it was perfectly nuetral. The additional turn in may have helped tremendously. Breakaway was very gradual and Steve S. can attest to the fact that I was one of the few Bimmers that didn't get massively sideways or plow through some cones. They really made it easy for a newbie like me.

I would highly recommmend these tires, especially at their price point. They definitely ride and behave like a performance tire and won't break the bank. My experience is pretty consistent with other reviews I have read from others that have bought the tire and previously were running MXX3's. My car did have two MXX3's in the rear when I bought it and these tires are equal to the Pilots. The only thing I miss about the Pilots is that nice dark rubber.
