1,300 HP Audi TT RS Breaks the 200 MPH Barrier: Video

Audi TT RS 40 years of quattro

The latest special-edition Audi TT RS is cool, but it can’t hold a candle to this 200-mph drag strip killer.

To celebrate 40 years of its groundbreaking quattro all-wheel system, Audi recently unveiled a wicked version of its TT RS Coupe. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like Americans will be able to opt for them, as the limited-edition model is for the German market only. It features loads of changes that are meant to pay tribute to its weapons-grade ancestors, and as you can see in the photos below, it looks hot. Obviously, the most striking feature is the racy livery, but fortunately, there are some other go-fast bits on the menu too.

For starters, there’s a new carbon fiber hood vent, and a wing in the back to increase downforce, and keep it even more planted to the pavement. There are also canards up front, while the cabin gets a unique steering wheel, and if you choose the rear-seat delete option, a trick-looking carbon fiber brace in place of the rear buckets.

What the special edition doesn’t get is more grunt, as the folks behind the Four Rings felt like the 400 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque on tap in the standard model was enough to get the job done.

For the record, I’m not arguing the anniversary edition needs a ton more poke, as a 3.7-second zero-to-60 time means this baby is still pretty quick. But as long as we’re talking quick Audis with cool paint jobs? I have to mention this video I just stumbled across of a ferociously tuned RS breaking the 200 mph barrier. Is it just me, or does this wrap remind anyone else of “battle-damaged” Star Wars toys?

While I can’t imagine this beast would be street-legal anywhere, especially with the straight pipes exiting directly out of the hood, it’s a straight-up crazy piece of tackle.

The details in the video are sparse, but we know this baby is cranking out a crazy 1300 horsepower, and it’s spinning all four wheels during launches. As you’d expect, that means it’s only able to shave a few tenths off the stock model’s zero-to-60 time. But after it gets its hooks into the pavement, this beast blasts through the quarter mile in a blistering 9.7 seconds, which puts it squarely in supercar territory, as does the 203-mph top speed. Watch the video to hear the high-strung mill bounce off the rev limiter!
