Following the major success of the Audi A6 in China, AUDI AG is to add the locally built Audi A4 to its product range. The plan is to achieve an annual production capacity of 30,000 cars in the long term. In this way Audi is looking to further extend its market leadership in the Chinese premium segment. The launch of the Chinese-built A4 is scheduled for April.

As Erich Schmitt, Audi Board Member for Purchasing and responsible for the Chinese market, explains: “The Audi A4 will provide us with a second mainstay, so that we can continue to strengthen our leading position in the premium segment. Last year we increased our sales in China to 36,500 units and also predict a double-digit growth rate for this year.”

Audi has had production operations in China since 1988 and is the only premium manufacturer to produce locally in China. The Audi A6 has been built locally in Changchun since September 1999. More than 80,000 A6 models have already been delivered to customers in China.

AUDI AG has a 10 percent share in the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture. In addition to local production, TT, allroad quattro and Audi A8 models are imported. Audi has an exclusive network in China of 52 dealerships in 41 cities.
