Audi RS e-tron GT Tears Up the Autobahn
One recent independent test from Germany shows the Audi RS e-tron GT is under-promising and over-delivering.
Truth in advertising is great, as it’s always nice to know that a product will do what the manufacturer says it will. But you know what’s even better? Yup, under-promising and over-delivering. It’s a hallmark of good business, and according to this new clip from our friends over at Automann-TV, that’s exactly what Audi has done with the RS e-tron GT. Because while the folks at Ingolstadt have publicly said the new green machine would make the sprint to 60 mph in a brisk 3.3 seconds, as it turns out, it’s even quicker than advertised.
In this video, we see the super sedan hit the number in just 3.2 seconds, which yes, isn’t all that much quicker. But as the presenter here points out, the most interesting thing about that metric is that the car managed to best its factory time while wearing winter rubber. So after these babies start getting into the hands of owners in sunny locales like Southern California, and shod with sticky stuff like Michelin Pilot Sport Cups, you can bet we’ll see even better times. Seriously, who said electric cars have to be boring?
Of course, the fun doesn’t stop there. On an unrestricted stretch of the world-famous autobahn, the e-tron managed to hit a — at least here in the States — license-forfeiting 159 mph, which is a few ticks better than the official rating of 155 mph.
That said, while it’s neat to see the machine so easily best factory figures, it’s also pretty fun to watch it get a little sideways on a B road beforehand. Because while the motor while the motor is near-silent, the tires are pretty vocal. As electric performance cars get more common, we’re sure to see plenty of those kind of shenanigans, but at least for now, it’s something of a novelty.
