Ground-breaking technology: The Direct Shift Gearbox, with its origins in motor racing, has been given the “FuturAuto Award 2004” by the Association of Belgian Motoring Journalists (UJPA). Every year the Belgian motoring press honours unusual, innovative technical developments for the benefit of the car driver in this way.

The Direct Shift Gearbox makes it possible for drivers to enjoy maximum agility and immense driving pleasure, combined with harmonious and dynamic acceleration in the optimum torque range at any time – along with good economy thanks to low fuel consumption figures. Giving its reasons for making the award, the expert jury stated that this gearbox technology combines the benefits of a 6-speed manual gearbox with the advantages of a modern automatic. The innovative technology incorporated in the DSG, with its double clutch, makes it possible to change gear without interrupting the flow of power.

The Direct Shift Gearbox is available in the Audi TT Coupé and Roadster in combination with the 184 kW (250 bhp), 3.2-litre engine. The Direct Shift Gearbox is also offered for the two versions of the Audi A3 with the most impressive torque figures, the 3.2 quattro and the 2.0 TDI.
