2013 Audi S4 SEMA Build

This Audi S4 SEMA is available for a fraction of the build cost, but is that fraction still too much?

The annual SEMA show in Las Vegas was cancelled this year, for obvious reasons. But if you’ve never been, we’d highly recommend making the trip to Sin City at least once. On one hand, it’s an unparalleled automotive freak show, but there’s always lots of cool stuff on the floor. Most everything is built to the gills, and while the cars spend a week getting drooled over, after the show closes, they’re often yesterdays news, available for mere fractions of what they cost to build.

That’s definitely the case with this 2013 widebody Audi S4 our friends over at Jalopnik discovered recently. Because if the prices on the listing are to be believed, any potential buyer is going to get a wicked deal on a slew of aftermarket kit. Of course, given the inflated cost of producing something like this, a fraction of the price is still a very high price indeed, and in this case, it’s 60k. For those keeping score at home, that’s around three times what stock, similar vintage S4 models seem to be fetching right now.

That said, before we continue, we’d like to ask who shoots pictures of a car like this in portrait orientation? It’s not the first time we’ve seen a cool Four Rings build photographed in such a perspectively challenged manner, and frankly, we’re just a little confused. For the record, we edited the photos so there’d be a far less wasted space. You’re welcome.

There aren’t any under-hood shots in the ad, though the S4 is said to feature an APR Stage 3 Ultracharger throttle body, an APR intercooler, and a set of Eurocode long tube headers, along with an upgraded ECU and APR tune. Behind the widebody flares at all four corners, there are KW Suspension V3 coilovers, Brembo GTR brakes with Type 3 rotors, and 18-inch forged Rays TE37 wheels in satin white. If you can’t tell from the pics, the rubber comes courtesy of Toyo, and is said to be brand-new.

Inside the cabin, the dash looks to have been left untouched, but the steering wheel is a carbon flat bottom unit, and there have been a host of other mods. The stock thrones have been swapped out for a set of carbon-Kevlar Recaro Pro Racer Hans seats, and to keep the driver and passenger firmly in place, there are red Scroth Profi racing harnesses, which definitely won’t get tedious to use on the street. The rear seats have been ditched entirely, to make way for a bolt-in half roll cage.

In the ad, it says the custom Alcantara rear seat delete cost a whopping $6,500, which is so much money to take something away, you can practically hear the product people at Porsche whistling appreciatively.

Since you’re probably using your eyes to read this post, you’ll likely notice there’s been a laundry list of work done to the exterior as well. First, it’s been wrapped in an Audi Sport S1 livery, and a beefy pair of light pods from Spyder ensure that even the darkest night should pose no challenge.

The widebody mentioned in the title of the ad is composed of a slew of parts including, “Carbon Fiber Flares, Carbon Fiber Side Skirts, a Carbon Fiber Front Lip, a Carbon Fiber Rear Diffuser, and Carbon Fiber DTM Canards.” Just those bits alone are said to have cost a whopping 30k, which is enough to find an excellent stock example of this car anywhere in the world. There’s also an APRĀ  GT-500 rear wing, a rack and basket set up from Thule, and to round out the extensive use of carbon fiber, some matching carbon mirrors.

All told, the seller says the total cost of this build comes in at over $160k. While that does make the $60k asking price seem slightly more reasonable, at the end of the day, this is a specially modded car that’s going to need to find a special buyer. Plus, 60k isn’t exactly throwaway money, so we’d expect this seller will be hard pressed to get an offer near that. But what do you think? is this baby worth the price of admission? Let us know in the comments!
