RS4 Cabriolet Is A Rare Sight To See In The US

2008 Audi RS4 Cabriolet Convertible

One of 300 Audi RS4 Cabriolet combines a manual transmission, a 420 horsepower V8 and the open-air convertible experience.

The beloved Audi RS4 is a bit of an Easter egg to find on our side of the pond. Though it is widely recognized as one of the best Audis ever, the US only got them for the 2007 and 2008 model years. That, in its own right, is a crying shame. However, even more limited was access to the drop-top cabriolet models. Only 300 examples sold in the US, so finding one for sale is a momentous occasion. Unfortunately, the time to purchase this one has come and gone. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take a look at it anyway, right?

This Phantom Black Pearl RS4 Cabriolet recently sold on Cars and Bids, the auction site brainchild of automotive journalism superstar Doug Demuro. It reached a hammer price of $28,000, which is interesting because the winning bidder also had the second-highest bid at $27,500. (You can’t be too safe, right?)

It has relatively low miles for its age at 77,200 and features some interesting modifications. Let’s dive in, shall we?

Interior 2008 Audi RS4 Cabriolet Manual Quattro

The RS4 is a monumental step up from lower-spec models.

Inside you’ll find a stark departure from a standard B7 Audi A4 or S4. The RS4 comes laden with carbon fiber trim and bolstered bucket seats brandished with the coveted RS4 logo. You’ll note that this example (and all 300 Cabriolet models sold in the US) features a six-speed manual transmission. The engine is the same 420 horsepower V8 you’ll find in the likes of the Audi R8, though the R8 does feature a different oiling system. Of course, the B7 RS4 also features Audi’s legendary Quattro all-wheel-drive system. Make no mistake; this car is a beast.

The RS4 also features dynamic ride control to adapt between comfort and performance suspension applications, 19-inch allow wheels, satellite navigation, a Bose sound system, and Silk Nappa leather upholstery. Though the brutal V8 power and Quattro system are ready to dominate around a race track, these creature comforts ensure you’ll have a pleasant ride when you’re using your 420 horsepower convertible for normal activities like going to the grocery store.

Modifications to this particular RS4 include a Milltek Exhaust System (which can be heard in the below-linked video), smoked side marker lenses, and a darker finish on its wheels. It also comes loaded with relatively major recent service history. Since February 2020, it’s had a fuel injection service, new tires, brake pads, and brake rotors installed. Additionally, it had its intake manifold gasket replaced, walnut media blasting performed, rear mount plate replaced, and the driver and passenger door glass replaced. Most recently, it had a new fuel pump and fuel filter installed. This car has undoubtedly been cared for.

Hard to find, but not impossible

Though the time to purchase this RS4 Cabriolet has come and gone, don’t get too discouraged. This is the second one to sell on Cars and Bids since September last year. If you’re in the market for one, keep your eyes peeled. They do occasionally come up for sale. For now, enjoy the sultry sounds of the fierce Audi 4.2-liter V8.
