Team ADT Champion Racing on Front Row at Road Atlanta
BRASELTON, GA. (April 16, 2005) – Marco Werner, driver of the No.1 Audi R8, narrowly missed earning the pole position for tomorrow’s Sportsbook.com Grand Prix of Atlanta. Werner was a fraction of a second (0.427 seconds) behind pole sitter James Weaver in the Lola from Dyson Racing. The “sister” car driven by Frank Biela will start the No. 2 Audi R8 in third position. “Today’s qualifying session was a really good example of how evenly matched, evenly prepared and evenly driven the two Audi R8 cars are,” said Brad Kettler, Technical Director for Team ADT Champion Racing. “For two laps running, they were seven thousandth’s apart. The Dyson team has always qualified well here and James Weaver has once again proven how good he is. One lap is one thing but a good race car is something else. We are prepared for tomorrow.” The Audi R8 has won overall in six consecutive Road Atlanta American Le Mans races (2000-2004), a series record now tied by six straight Audi R8 victories at Sebring. Team ADT Champion Racing has won three Road Atlanta ALMS overall events in a row, tying the record for consecutive overall ALMS race wins by an entrant set by Audi Sport North America at Laguna Seca (2000-02), Road Atlanta (2000-02), Mosport (2000-02) and Sebring (2000-02). The Sportsbook.com Atlanta Grand Prix takes place April 15-17 at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia. Sunday’s race, a two-hour, 45-minute timed race gets the green flag at noon. Our car has always been good here and qualifying is just one lap so I’m not too worried. It’s a shorter race so it would have been nice to be on the pole but all the cars are very close and consistent. It will be a good race!” Marco Werner (D) – “It’s good that we are in the front row but unfortunately we did not get the pole. We knew the Dyson cars would be fast and we are happy that two of our cars are between the Dyson cars. And just before qualifying, the car became better and better.
