We count down the 10 greatest Audi engines of all time. Which one will trump the rest? Read on, and find out.

When it comes to weaving a compelling tale of high performance and iconic luxury cars, few can hold a candle to Audi and its impressive lineup of products. From the Quattro performance coupe to the Audi R8, the list of smash hits goes on and on, and it can be hard to keep track of them all. However, the real stars of the show are some of the awesome engines that Audi has equipped to its models over the years, and we have compiled the 10 best into one handy list. So buckle up, it’s gonna be a wild ride down memory lane.

10. 4.2L V8 (2002-2004)

RS6 Bi-Turbo 4.2 liter V8

A key ingredient that can make or break a performance offering is not having the reliability and horsepower to thrill the senses. Thankfully all of these things are present and accounted for with this mighty V8. Seeing duty in the A8 flagship sedan as well as the S8 and the smaller S4, this beast of an engine played all the right notes for buyers no matter what it was put in. But while the 340 and 414 horsepower it generated in the S4 and its RS4 sibling were nothing to sneeze at, things got even more insane when you stepped inside the 2002-2004 RS6. Here, the 4.2 liter was twin-turbocharged and heavily modified to produce 450 horsepower which once served as the benchmark standard for performance car offerings during that period of time. With that title, it was only fitting to put this engine and its twin boosted cousin at number 10 on this list.
