Audi RS6 Wagon Tuning 101: When it Breaks, Make it Faster

By -

When starting with a tuned car like a twin turbo V18 RS6 Wagon, you can expect it to break. What you do next could make your car faster.

When you buy a tuned car, you expect additional horsepower, speed, and better handling. What you do not expect is a string of broken parts and mechanical failures. In this case, most owners would repair the failure and continue to drive the car. What some owners do is use this as a chance to upgrade the performance. It is a “while you’re in there” approach. Tuning shops love this type of job, as a simple broken part can lead to a $100,000 complete build.

This video is completely in German but it has English subtitles, so you just need to read a bit. In this video, YouTube channel Sourkrauts interviews Max, who is the owner of a 900 horsepower Audi RS6 wagon. Just to refresh you, this generation of RS6 has a twin turbo V10 from the R8. Yes you read that right, and it is in an all-wheel-drive wagon with box flares. So, Max’s RS6 had a bit of tuning done at the time of his purchase and was putting down 760 hp. Unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it, the RS6 broke a downpipe that leads to removing the engine.

One the motor was out he did a, “while you’re in there,” and put on bigger turbos, pushing the car to 900 horsepower. This then leads to blowing up both the engine and turbos. Max then went a bit nuts on the project. After replacing the engine and turbos, he put on intercoolers, two fuel pumps, and injectors. The RS6 was now pushing 950 horsepower. Until it broke the transmission, the increased torque from the upgrades was just too much for it to handle. Max is awesome and now shooting for 1000 horsepower. Keep up the good work sir.
