Default Cam Adjustment Valve Issue

I have a 2001 Audi A4 1.8T. i just put a new cam adjustment valve in it. it ran perfectly fine when i drove it home. the next time i started it it started running bad and engine light came on and said the timing was over advanced. so i took it apart again, adjusted the timing, and it ran good again. drove it for about 45 min running perfectly. next time i started it up, same thing happened again. engine light and it started running bad and the same code came up. what could be the possible issues/ solutions? thanks guys.

What exactly do you mean by cam adjsutment valve? Where did you make the adjustment? Under the valve cover?

it is actually a valve in the motor that tensions the timing chain when you start up the car and i put a new one in. how you tell if you need a new one is when you start up the car there is rattling. that means that the adjustment valve isnt moving fast enough to tension the chain and the chain is slapping around.

Ahh you're reffering to the cam chain tensioner. Usually unless its bad or installed incorrectly shoundn't change timing. Some brands of tensioners have been known to do what your experiancing. Could also be your Cam angle sensor.

they are the same thing. if you type in 1.8t cam adjustment valve in on google images. then type in 1.8t cam chain tensioner on google images there will be the same pictures. i am getting it all looked at tomorrow by a different mechanic i will let you know what the problem was.
