Default 98 2.8 Quattro low idle RPMs rough time starting and staying running

I need some help here!!! I replaced crank shaft position sensor starts a little easier now but rpms are about 2 to 300 and dies after about 30 seconds. I have to pump gas to get started. When I put in drive and push gas it slowly rolls forward. Ideas?

Moose..what was the original problem that indicated a crank sensor?..obvious question like connectors all clean and firmly clipped together?

Air leaks? No connection loose on the air mass meter?

Any error codes?

There were codes I got a answer on what the problem is. It needs timing done. The codes it was throwing were just generic codes. Most likely the person I got the car from attempted to do the timing and were unable to do it so they put it back together and saw it threw a generic code and told me the problem was something simple. It made sense to me so I believed them.....stupid

Well maybe you will get lucky and just have to retime the timing belt or replace a chain tensioner. Worse case the belt broke, and bent valves, and they threw a belt on and it runs on like 3 cylinders...

do a compression and a leak down tests, that should give you and idea if you are dealing with internal engine damage or something else. but there is a possibility that the PO did the t-belt wrong and all you'll have to do is reset the cam timing
