Default Burning smell/smoke coming from exhaust after oil change, help!

First, some backstory.

Picked up a 95 90 Quattro with 180k miles a fee months ago. One cat was so clogged it couldn't drive under its own power so I cut the exhaust off and did some long overdue maintenance like timing belt etc. I did the first oil change today since I've only been driving it to check for issues, but finally changed it since I am really going to start driving it now.

Now I'll start first by saying the car had been sitting for a while before purchase, and the oil change sticker had 2/10/10 on it (but had only been driven a total of 1k miles or so on that change).

Flash forward to today, there was no signs of smoking before the change but now there's smoke coming from the exhaust when revving or driving around. My first thought is rings, but using the same weight oil (10-30) I didn't think there would be any issues. Power hasn't suffered and there aren't any cooling issues. The smoke doesn't smell sweet, it has more of a burning smell. Any thoughts? Would it maybe be a PCV system? Thanks!

Well I let the car sit for the majority of the day and started it up to move it into the garage. At first startup there was no smoke at all, and as the car heated up there was some condensation but that burned off. I drove it up and down the street to warm it up and did some WOT passes in front of my house. The smoke isn't thick enough to see behind the car when driving under power and acelleration isn't affected like it would be with a HG issue. It doesn't smoke at all at idle, nor does it stink. The smoke seems a little bit better tonight too, so could it just be some residual crap burning off?

From what you describe, it does appear to have been residual oil that got transformed into gunk. I would had done a flush before the first oil change, and if you are planning to keep it, go with a synthetic oil 10W-40 and Mann filters. Good luck.
