Compression test
info was buried deep in my other thread:
I did a compression test this week (cranked, but did not open throttle):
Compression readings where
Passenger side bank front to rear:
160
125
110
Driver side bank front to rear:
150
125
110
Not good (I assume; and one possible explanation for inadequate power?).
Not sure what is more likely, pistons or valves?
I meanwhile found generic info that also lists head gasket (when 2 neighboring cylinders show abnormally low pressure), cylinder head crack.
What is the likely scenario for the 2.8 12V? Headgasket, because on both banks the front 2 show much lower pressure?
If only one cylinder is low: exhaust valve?
Maybe a good de-sludge will help (clean the valves and improve compression?). Coincidence that pressure is dropping front to back and both banks similar?
I now also read about a 'wet compression test' (squirting a bit of engine oil into the spark hole of the low cylinder before cranking). Info says that if bad cylinder then shows significantly higher compression, it is the rings/cylinder. It not, it is the valve.
