Got my post-cat O2 Sensors out, the $20 VW sensors go in tomorrow...
Not nearly as easy as the pre-cat ones. I *thought* I had disconnected all the clips but still couldn't get the sensors to pull through the engine bay. Turns out there is a clip hiding on top of the tranny that I missed. Tomorrow I am going to splice the VW sensors into the old harnesses and reinstall them.
Wish me luck! ;-)
Some good news. Upon a more thorough inspection, it looks like only one of my control arms are loose. :-)

whew... I wish you luck i need to do this soon so i hope it works for you too.. i cant remember..
have you replaced any pre cat sensors and if you have were they oem or otherwise.. i read and heard sooooo many different sides to this i have not decided what way to go... if i order 2 OEM pre cat o2 sensors it is minimun $260 if i get the bosche spliceable wires it is only$78.
so that is 3 times more and that is not the dealor prices they wanted $198 in kansas city. soif the VW wires work in the A4 and be half the price of the ones i found that would be unreal which maybee it really is...

I'm as confused as you are too after the last discussion.
And w/ over 200k miles, I don't feel like dropping $800 on sensors. That's about 20% of what my car is worth.
MrD.: what are the part #'s for the VW O2's?

i am glad to hear i am not the only one...
i dont have as many miles as you do but i do have alomst 110k..i hope ot get to 200k in the next few years or longer if possible actually.. what to do what to do.. inthe mean time i am wasting gas with a bad sensor..getting about 200miles a tank now instead of 300-350

Yeah, I'm wasting mileage too........
I was getting a little over 400 miles per tank, but am down to ~350 miles. However, I don't have quattro either :-( Mileage & weight is the only plus I know of on a non-quattro.

Yes, I replaced my pre-cat sensors...
I orignally had installed Generic Bosch's and spliced in the old connector. I recently replaced them with OEM O2's. The OEM O2's seem to work much better. The precat sensors are muc more important as they affect your a/f ratio. I'd stick with OEM for the pre-cat ones. You can try the generics, maybe you'll have better luck but, IMO, do it right the first time. I'll report back on how the $20 VW sensors work for the post-cat sensors.
Whatever you decide, good luck.
