Help... cam is 180 degrees off
Just replaced right side head, cam and lifters on my 1996 2.8 12v (AFC). I placed cam in head in neutral position, but when I tested the cam plate, the big hole is on the outside. Is there a way to rotate the cam 180 degrees without removing the cam bearing caps? The TB is still off, and the cam sprocket turns free at this stage. Engine is at TDC.

Since nobody else answered, can you put the locking plate (the thing with the two holes) back on the cam shaft and using the cam holding tool pins as a wrence to turn the cam shaft? I just don't know if valves will strike the piston in one of the cylinders preventing a half rotation. However, thank you for teaching me to put the locking plates on and determine the correct positioning before head installation. I'm probably doing a head gasket job soon.
