how can i tell if a mance MAF will work on my 30valve?

I believe it has to do with the number of wires connected to it - 3 wire MAFs can be swapped.
4 wire 30V MAFs cannot be swapped - at least until someone comes up with a workaround.
But the best way to know would be to ask the man himself - his email address is in all his posts (he is "VAP", if you didn't know).

Only the very early '98 30V with the 471A aluminum MAF housing will work
all later model 30V engines use an even more restrictive and smaller diameter plastic MAF housing w/4-wire harness than the later, large-bore 12V 3-wire MAF housings. Additionally all 30V engines abandoned Hitachi electronics and returned to Bosch ECU's.

Yep, for some reason my 99.5 had a 3-wire 471A, so I was good-to-go.
The gains were good as far as my seat-of-the-pants dyno goes. Hopefully you are in luck and have an odd-ball 471A like I did.
