I need help. Coolant temperature sensor function.
I am having a go-around with AOA and my dealer regarding a catalytic converter failure.
Both catalytic converters failed at the same time. Fault codes showed them operating "below standards".
Previously there had been a problem over at least a 2 month span during which the coolant temperature sensor was malfunctioning. Finally it crapped out completely, the car had to be towed and the sensor replaced under warranty.
I searched the forum and came up with some good information but could always use more.
I had read that one of the causes for a misfire condition is a defective coolant temperature sensor.
But I noticed in one of the posts that if the sensor is disconnected, the computer will default to a set temp. and at least run. In my case the sensor failed, and the car would not run, does that make sense?
Can anyone direct me to some sort of diagram illustrating the inputs to the computer and what some of the results might be?
I'm going to wind up in court on this, so I am looking for all the simple graphics I can find. I don't expect a judge to wade thru a wiring diagram.
I'm trying to come up with a graphic that will clearly illustrate that an engine coolant temperature sensor can have an effect on the combustion mix, and that an incorrect mix can result in a catalytic converter failure.
Any suggestions?
I have the Bently CD, but wasn't able to come up with anything there, am I looking in the wrong place?
Thanks for the help,
Frank
