RON to Octane conversion?
here we sell 91 Octane (mid grade) and 93-94 Octane (premium)
is there a way to convert octane ratings to RON? |
ooh, here we go.....
so our 12v calls for a minimum of.....
91 AKI (CLC) or 95 RON (ROZ) so going by this calculator it seems I need a MON number too to convert it all to a octane rating.. wow, confusing..<ul><li><a href="http://www.csgnetwork.com/octaneratecalc.html">http://www.csgnetwork.com/octaneratecalc.html</a></li></ul> |
You need to also know MON
Then you can calculate the AKI (Anti Knock Index = "Octane" in US).
Also check <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating">wiki</a><ul><li><a href="http://www.csgnetwork.com/octaneratecalc.html">Octane Calculator</a></li></ul> |
What are you trying to do?
Look at the pump. Maybe it says what kind of formula is used to determine "Octane." According to wikipedia, Canada uses the US method.
RON is always about 4 to 5 points higher than the equivalent PON (Pump Octane number = AKI): USA (AKI/PON) --- Europe (RON) 87 = 91 89 = 93 91 = 95 93 = 98 |
well....
all the pumps here have a rateing in "octane"
I am trying to convert the various "octane" numbers (eg 89, 91, 94 octane numbers on pumps) to the recomended min gas rateings for our 12V eg.. 91 AKI (CLC) or 95 RON (ROZ) trying to translate this AKI or RON number to a Octane number. EDIT>> after reading your above post... so AKI is the same as Octane? |
Question re: Your '93 vs your '95....
...you've seen this probably (below)?
Do you run different gas in the two cars (two different C/R's & Min RON's)?<ul><li><a href="http://www.12v.org/engine/index.php?section=fe">Min. RON (fuel octane) AAH vs. AFC...</a></li></ul> |
both the 93 and 95 have a AAH in them.
for some reason my 95 has a AAH
It is a super earley build 95 #615 IIRC |
In Canada: we use the (R+M)/2 method...
<center><img src="http://www.sunoco.ca/data/1/rec_imgs/114_PS_CR_1.gif"></center><p>...therefore 91(<b>R</b>ON/AKI) + 95(<b>M</b>ON) /2 = 93
|
Re: In Canada: we use the (R+M)/2 method...
so you are saying 93 octane is the min spec for the 12v?
|
I'm saying in Canada, with an AAH...
Look for a pump w/93 or better on it.
