Default CAUTION tfsi owners

This is one I did a few weeks ago. New timing chain and all new guides and tensioner. We never have problems with any of the auxiliary chains, so we re-use all those components. The auxiliary chains use mechanical tensioners so they are pretty safe.

In this photo you can see how the chain is jumped on the camshaft gear.. This is very common these motors if the hydraulic tensioner is not changed.

Hey so a little update. I didn't do a search to see if this has been discussed, I know I should have....

I have been getting a slew of 2.0t Audi and vw models with the timing chain problems.

we recommend the timing chain tensioner as a maintenance item because these motors are interference motors. I have done a bunch of cylinder heads because of bent valves and its very pricey. I see a lot of guys dropping the engine to do these chains but I do them in car to save the customer on labor. The hydraulic tensioner fails often on these and we recommend changing it ever 50k. I've seen the chain jump as early as 69,000miles. I got one today that has 120,000 miles and the customer said he's had it done before. Luckily his chain jumped only a few teeth and didn't bend valves. I've had two so far in 2016 that bent valves.

if your car was running fine when you cut it off, then has a misfire after starting up, this is a good indicator your chain might have jumped.

its a simple 30 minute procedure to pull the upper timing cover to check the timing. Here is an image of the one tha came in today
