Default Dipstick and MMI oil discrepancy

I'm getting no traffic in the Q5 section so I will post it here.

I just installed the dipstick from ECS in my 2013 Q5 2.0T and with the dipstick I am showing way past full, nearly to where the twist in the dipstick stops; this is with the car warm and off for 15 min. The MMI shows the level is at max. Either my dipstick is wrong or the MMI is, has anyone ever experienced an incorrect MMI oil level?

here is the dipstick I purchased
06J115611E - Engine Oil Dipstick - ES#2662893

The MMI isn't telling you the level is at MAX. You have lost your point of reference when the oil is over-filled like this. You could be 1, 2 or even 3 quarts over-filled and have no way of knowing. However, when grossly over-filled, you will get a warning message on the DIS telling you so.

Until the MMI falls below the MAX level, you can't tell if you are consuming oil or where the oil level is actually at. It's very clever of the dealer and the port to over-fill the oil like this. The operator never knows if the vehicle is consuming oil unless the level shown in the MMI falls below the MAX level Then the driver can see the rate of consumption as the gage drops.

Your dipstick is likely providing a good indicator about your over-fill condition.

I suction out oil until I can see the level measured on the MMI...meaning it's 95% full or whatever you decide.

Yemff, here's another interesting thread about using your VCDS tool to accurately check you oil level assuming the sensor is working properly:

My oil ended up being overfilled by a little more than half a quart. My MMI and dipstick now show just below max.
