Engine Rebuild Questions

I have a few questions I need answered.
back story...
Bought a 2011 A4 with an "engine fire" turns out the rod went through the block. Purchased a 2009 Motor previous owner said it used oil so I am getting it rebuilt.

here are the questions I have:

1.) When replacing the pistons with the updated pistons do the connecting rods HAVE to be replaced? Everything I read says the new pistons have a larger wrist pin but the dealer said the never sell the connecting rods

2.) On the pistons from the 2009 motor it has "08/09/11" stamped into the pistons. Looks like a date to me and looks like its from 2011. would this mean the pistons were replaced? How can I tell if they were replaced or not

09-11 CAEB MOTORS HAVE THE SAME WRIST PIN YOU DO NOT NEED TO REPLACE THE RODS. JUST REPLACE THE PISTONS AND GET NEW ROD BEARINGS AND YOU WILL BE OK. ITS THE 2012 AND UP ENGINES THAT HAS THE BIGGER WRIST PIN.
