High Mileage A3 Purchase
Hello! I'm now to this forum but figured this would be the best place to post this question.
I'm looking at purchasing a higher mileage (115k) 2006 Audi A3 - manual, sport package, in black. The car looks to be in very good shape, and the dealership selling it says the timing belt was replaced at 110k. I'm going to take it to a local mechanic to check out, as well.
Otherwise, what do I need to look out for? Are there many known issues with the 2.0 engines after many miles? I had an MKV GTI that I put 60k miles on a few years ago and I didn't really have any issues other than oil consumption.

Well, I would get a copy of the RO showing the timing belt was done, don't just take his word for it. Also if you could pull the tires off to take a look at your brakes pads, rotors, and calipers. Look for leaks. While you have the tire off look at the axles boots. Look for tares or leaks in the boot. From the left front tire, if jacked up, you should have a good view of the oil pan. check for leaks around the seal and drain plug. If you can look behind the motor to see if the tranny is drizzling or dry. no leaks you should be good to go. I would also look up top to check that valve cover for leaks. Make sure your window regulators are working properly, they are easy to fix but a good way to bring down the price. Listen to that turbo and check the idle of the car. If you could pull the coil packs out and check for damage. If you don't have any lights let the car run for a bit and see if any come on. if you do run a scan see what comes up and pull the codes, google them bad boys. Thats all I can think of. I love my A3. Good Luck!

Anthony - thanks so much for the info! I'm going to take my code reader so I'll be able to read the code history, as well. If all goes well I'll probably purchase it next Friday. I'll post a photo after I drive it back to DC.
