Default 2.7t clutch replacement troubles

My son replaced the clutch on his 2000 A6, now, we don't have a spark. Had the flywheel resurfaced was told later never do that with the dual mass fly wheel. I suspect the pickup is not in sync even though the flywheel was marked and reinstalled in the same position. Did we screw up by resurfacing the fly wheel? I would appreciate some insight from someone who knows. Thanks...

I think the potential problem comes from the stepped flywheel and the pin removal. Anyone know if this can throw off the spark?
