Default Add a K&N Filter or Not

I've been seeing a lot of talk about K&N filters. What is the concensus on them? Are the beneficial or are they harmful to the MAF?
Please respond if you're using one and have not had any issues.

thanks,
Dan

I recently switched back to an Audi-issued filter from the K&N. Acceleration feels smoother with the paper-type, as opposed to the oiled.

I am about to customize a cold air intake filter to add extra HP.

sincerely doubt you'll see a lot on a CAI, but it always looks neat.

Default Mafs G/s increase when switching from oem to K&N, so it does flow more.

My Maf G/s went up about 30 when switching from oem to K7N
