Cam Position Sensor Code no start after accident
 

So here's the story, picked up a 2002 Audi s4, automatic that had been in a slight front end accident, was told it ran into a tow hitch at approximately 15 mph. The radiator support was cracked, as was the passenger side throttle body to intercooler pipe and the timing cover. I started the car when I first bought it to verify that it ran. I replaced all the parts and started the car, it had a very weird idle issue but upon further inspection I found an acorn in the throttle body that must've happened when it was sitting. But the car did run, I moved it about 100 yards to park it elsewhere. Well I scanned the car with vag com and got several codes, but I cleared them to see what would come back. The constant was the 16725 for the Cam Position sensor, G40 implausible signal. So I went on vag com and I've swapped both cam sensors with known good ones. I also checked the wiring, but vag com didn't say which one (bank one or bank two) was bad. So i guess what I'm asking is should I just assume that I skipped timing? Or is there something else that I could possibly be missing? I've cranked the car several times and it sounds like it wants to go, not like any Audi I've ever tried to start with known bad timing. The exhaust also stinks like fuel. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just trying to save myself unnecessary time/effort if possible. TIA:(

Cam sensor only adjusts ignition timing not the mechanical timing.

You would need to pull the covers off and probably the front end and actually check your marks to see if the belt skipped a tooth or so.

Just happened to my 2000 S4. Cracked pressure pipe on the passenger side from a 5MPH crash into a truck bumper. Broken pieces from the pipe caused the timing belt to jump teeth and took out several valves on the RT head. Stop cranking it and check the timing first before more damage is done.
