NO...SAVING $200(Cost of TOOL) versus $5000 (Cost of Engine)...I have change mine twice...once schedule....once bad roller. The tool take all guess work out of it.

Yes, but you should use the cam lock bar
I did mine without it, I made sure to double and triple check that everything lined up (counted teeth,checked marks on cams and crank)
Than hand cranked the engine around twice
