Default Can't do a search on this forum so I had to post...

Just had my oil changed by the dealer where I purchased it (not Audi). I got coupons for three free oil changes with the purchase so I need to burn through them with something other than what I'll probably use for oil in the future.

The closest they had to the "Audi recommended" oils was Mobil 1 5W-30. I know 0W-40 would have been better, but I'll be changing this quickly (espcially for synthetic) -- probably not much over 5000 miles -- in order to use the three coupons before they expire a year after I got them.

Is Mobil 1 5W-30 OK for my 2.7T?

Default I know 5W-30 is not recommended, but is it OK until my next change?

Stated differently... If I change it at 5000 miles (well ahead of when Mobil 1 synthetic would normally need to be changed) which will be well ahead of the cold weather, will this be OK for my 2.7T through the summer?

I'd hate to have to dump out what just got put in there, but will do so if this is going to gunk up my engine.

Thanks!

Default Been there, done that. Have it printed and in my car. That said...

I'm still looking for some reasurance that the NON-approved Mobile 1 5W-30 I had to put in my car (dealer didn't have anything closer to recommended) is OK if I change it in 5000 miles.

Anybody? Anybody? Beuller?

I don't think anyone is going to make a suggestion here. Check out bobistheoilguy.com..

I can't tell you. I can tell you I dumped in some good ol Cheveron 10-40 last Friday and mine hasn't locked up. I was in a pinch. I didn't have a filter or the right oil. The local "pit stop" wouldn't touch it. I'd just bought it Wednesday it was Friday afternoon and I wanted to roll. The way I see it new 10-40 is better than "unkown". I will be going to a new filter and Royal Purple.
