car wont fire up
i had some misfires in a couple of cylinders and while the car was driving wierd, stuttering, I turned the engine off. Soon after, I tried turning the car back on and it wouldnt fire. Tried cranking it a few more time and finally it turned on without much hesitation. So I changed all the plugs and cleared the codes. The car then started right away and after a good drive I turned it off. Then tried to turn it on again and it did the same thing. It wouldnt crank and the battery is good. Once in a while it'll turn on without any problems and then wouldnt even crank at all. Could this be the starter? I'm a B5 S4 AWE stage 3.....

Not a timing or ignition problem.....
your dealing with a fueling issue. If it starts up after a few cranks tha says that your probably dealing with inadequate fueling. Try letting the car prime before attempting to fire, turn the key to the on position without firing, do this two or three times before firing. Does the car still have misfires (stumble while running?). The only reason you should suspect a starter is if the starter grinds, or if it cranks slowly. In my experience(i.e a bad starter) it will just make a clicking noise in the Audis, as well as most cars. But if it cranks adequately, you know its either fueling or spark. You said it ran fine after firing up so I suspect a fueling issue. If you have a flashing CEL you still have misfires. Email me if you have more questions.
