chipping my 2002 allroad [2.7t]
hello out there in the audi universe...
guess this is a question asked many times: which company should i pick to chip my 2.7t - APR or GIAC?
also, GIAC offers a tiptronic-CHIP [$400 at AWE.com]. is it worth it's money and are there other companies offering trans-chips?

I'm considering chipping my 2003 A6 2.7T (6-speed) with a GIAC based on the recommendation of the local guy who works on my Audi. I'm interested in your experience and results, or that of others.
I drive it pretty easy, mostly on the highway, and have put on 40K miles since I bought it used in May 05. Ashamed to admit it, but I usually shift around 2,000 rpm and get 23-24 mpg on midrange gas.
I'd just like to have a little more jump when I want to stand on it and it would be nice to have the top end (133 mph) limit removed.
Experiences and feedback (or abuse) welcome.

Re: pick the company that is closest to you, for support reasons.
I have an 04 A6 2.7T. I chipped it last year and loved the change. Most bang for my buck in terms of perf.
I went with APR because of friends who had tried both. I drove a S4 with GIAC and found it quite brutal... it did seem a little more powerful than the GIAC but after a few runs, I was proven wrong. Perf is similar at equal octane level. APR seems smoother and driveability is excellent.
My local perf shop sells and services APR so it was a big factor in my decision, not performance.
You'll love it! I would recommend that you upgrade your DVs and get a BiPipe kit if you chip it.

I had AWE Tuning in Willow Grove, PA chip my 2003 A6 2.7T M6 in 2004 with 18k miles on it with the GIAC-X chip. They socketed the ECU so that I'm able to reinstall the stock chip before taking the car in for dealer servce.
It made a huge differince in the performance. An additional 75HP as measured at the wheel on a 4WD dyno. I have a before and after HP/Torque graph done the same day. Huge increase in torque, no decrease in drivability or reliability. I now have 65k miles and I still have a big grin after every drive.
Other mods added shortly after was a Tonago quick shift kit and the AWE machined aluminum drive train stabilizer (replaces the std crossbrace below the transmission and provides a mount to existing bolt holes in the bottom of the tranny.).
Love my ride so much, I just purchased a pristine 2004 Allroad 2.7T w/tip for my wife to replace her failing Volvo Cross Country wagon.
