cracked piston
 

Soooo I just bought this a6 2.7l and it had a string of problems. Pretty much the last thing I was doing was a oil pump (oil light dinged on, better safe than sorry). I was checked to see the condition of the bores and suddenly this.

Now, the car passed leak down on all cylinders, but it bothers me a tad. How thick are the stock pistons? I'm assuming some where along the road it lost a timing belt. Other than that the motor run great, no blowby, smokes a little on startup but I'd guess that's a turbo issue (180k, 6 different owners, I doubt they all keep up on oil changes).

So that being said, is it possible to pull the heads with the engine still in? I was thinking of just milking it till the turbos go. What would you guys do?
