Default ECS afterrun thermoswitch; do I want/need one..?

Newbie w/ '02 allroad: is this the gizmo that keeps the coolant flowing after shutdown to prolong engine & turbo life? And what made my '87 5000 turbo quattro go 250k mi. w/o a rebuild or turbo replacement?

Sorry for the ignorance, but there was a peace of mind in the ol' 5000 hearing that kick in. In the allroad, I don't hear anything.

Default Yes, you want one.

Of course, it's just a thermoswitch from a VW Eurovan, so you could order one from a local VW dealer if you find the part number. Won't get your credit card stolen that way.
