Engine Dress Up......Painting the Y-pipe?
have any of you guys painted you y-pipe? and if so, do you have pictures? and what paint did you use/how did u do it?
My Y pipe got dirty a little while ago and I've been thinking about repainting it, what do you guys think? I'm having a hard time trying to figure out a good color. Maybe keep it silver or do black?

from painting it twice, here's what I'd recommend.
lightly sand it. nothing too coarse, and you're just looking to even it out. make sure to clean it before you start to paint.
use black paint as a primer. it also is a GREAT base coat and really makes the silver stand out. it seems to help with the yellowing of the clear coat. two coats should be good, and make sure to give it plenty of time to dry. doing this on a 40 degree day sucks.
next go with silver. two or three coats with a lot of drying time will turn out excellent.
for the above, there are some wheel/engine paints that are resistant to heat that will work fine.
lastly, clear coat the crap out of it. 3 coats is good for me. again, drying and keeping everything even is the key.
the whole process really should take a day, though I've done it in an afternoon.
