Default Help! Trying to remove engine/tranny bolts on 2.7T Allroad

I am trying to replace the clutch on my 2.7T Allroad. I am having much difficulty figuring out how to remove the bottom three engine to transmission allen head bolts that face forward. Bentley manual makes it sound soooo easy--just lift the tranny a little and remove. Ya right. I can't seem to get enough clearance over the sub-frame. Am I not jacking it up enough maybe? It feels like I am about to start lifting the whole front end of the car up if I jack it up any more and my tranny jack is only rated for a 1/2 a ton. Can I remove or disconnect the subframe? That seems like a bad idea. Any ideas?

Also, Bentley only mentions 2 allen head bolts to remove but I see three on mine. I there a difference in A6 2.7T trannys and Allroad 2.7T trannys maybe?

Thanks

1/2 a ton should be enough to move it up - I lifted the whole front end of my S4 with one

hope you have jack stands or ramps

Thanks. I guess the 1/2 ton is gonna have ta do. I do have ramps and jacks. I just wish I had some help.

I found this tip on another forum:

"Three bolts under the tranny blocked by the subframe - Undo both side motor mounts, shave down an allen wrench (i chopped it off with an angle grinder) to get to the front motor mount, jack the motor up with one jack, jack up the tailshaft of the transmission (after removing the 2 transmission mount nuts!), remove the sway bar. Easy access with an allen wrench socket with a small extention on a rachet now by going around the subframe."

What a pita. Bentley conveniently left all of that out of their manual.

Is there a better way?

Well, I think I found the answer. Looks like I need to remove the motor mounts in order to lower the subframe to get the clearance I need to get at the bolts. I wonder why the Bentley manual doesn't mention this? I hope I not doing something wrong. But I don't see any other way.
