Default How hard is it to replace an O2 sensor (bank2,sensor1)?

Engine code P1131 shows this to be an O2 sensor at the location of bank2 sensor1. I looked that up and found it to be located before the first cat on the drivers side. Anyone have any experience replacing these? Does it require 50 million parts to be pulled off first to get to the sensor?

Not bad, about an hour. You need to remove the accordion hose and move the expansion tank. You'll also need a long extension, and a socket type O2 sensor socket. You can get the socket at any parts store like Autozone. The crows foot type doesn't work well on the drivers side.

Default Should I buy the Bentley manual or just dig in?

As it turns out I also need to replace bank1 sensor1 too. Is the accordian hose and expansion tank accessible from the bottom or from the top of the engine?

Default The Bentley doesn't have much on the O2 sensor change.

When I did both sides, I removed the air filter box, the accordian hose, the Y-pipe, and moved the expansion tank out of the way. You do all that from the top. Doesn't really take very long and gives a little better access. It doesn't look like you can get in there at first, but keep plugging away. I eventually found a way to get my hand on each of the sensors in order to thread them in.

You should still buy the Bentley, but it won't help much on this topic.

Thanks for the advice. Seems very do-able.

Default It is fairly easy...

Just get a 3/8" 24" extension, a swivel, a breaker bar or a long handled ratchet with a pipe on the handle and a crow's foot O2 sensor removal tool (Autozone loaner). And follow the tech write up in the tech articles section up on the linky above.

The wiring harness sucks to free up. I usually cut the o2 sensor wire off, then just zip tie the new one in over the old route. I use a snap-on o2 sensor socket and a 3 foot long 3/8" extension going from the opposite bank to get it loose.
