Low oil temperatures?
Some time ago, I lost the timing belt on my '00 A6 2.7T/6spd. I replaced the heads with some good used heads found here (Thanks!) and since that time, I've noticed that the oil temperature gauge has been acting funky. My thinking is not that something odd happened in the engine, but rather that being without a battery for several weeks, something happened with coding/adaptation somewhere.
The oil temp would rise as normal, but once the temp got to about 175 or so, the gauge would drop back to 150 and stay there. Rarely I'd see it hop up again, but usually it would just be at 150 until the next time I started from cold.
Figuring a bad sensor, I replaced the level thermal sensor in the pan when I did an oil change. I haven't seen the gauge move since. Last night and this morning, I did some datalogging with a VAG-COM. The instrument panel (Controller 17, Meas. block 050) thinks that the oil temps are hovering around 60C. A spirited run up a twisty hill in 2nd got the reading up to 65C, still not enough to budge the gauge.
Oil temps that low just don't seem credible to me, especially since there's a heat exchanger in the oil filter block, and coolant temperatures are in the 90-95C range. Is there some calibration value somewhere that I'm missing?

check the plug to make sure it's okay?
there really isn't any calibration value to speak of to my knowledge
should be a plug and play situation
maybe something happened to the wire - probably wouldn't hurt to trace it
what oil are you using, and how long do you run the car before taking the temp?

I'll check all the wiring again, but my understanding is that it's a PWM signal, so I'd be amazed if it worked at all if the wiring were damaged.
I'm running Mobil 1 5W30, and the last datalog was a 65 mile drive over a mix of backroads through the hills and freeway driving. Oil Temp never exceeded 62C.

you sure you ordered the right sensor?
I know people who've left their battery unplugged for much longer periods of time (due to turbo issues, whatnot) and didn't report this issue.
