Default MAF sensor

Having an acceleration problem that VAG has pinpointed to the MAF sensor with code 16487. Signal too high. No warning, it just started after refueling. Car stumbles as when attempting to accelerate. Nursed it home. Removed MAF. No debris. Filter and inlet good. Car ran fine and strong just before it began. Looking for feedback.

Default what year is your S?

if it is a 2000, it has a Bosch MAF which is prone to failure. it will fail and there won't be any visual "signs" of failure.

unplug the MAF and run without with until you get a replacement.

Mine did the same thing except it was voltage too low.

Worked when I parked it, didn't work in the morning.

Bought a used one from Force Five for $100 and just installed it 20 minutes ago.

Why do you suggest running without?

I assume the ECU defaults to the MAP sensor.

What about without drivability problems, would you still unplug?

Default huh?

I told him to unplug it to see if the problem went away.

If the problem goes away, then it is definitely the MAF sensor.

It won't cause any driveability problems, though I wouldn't be racing it any time soon.

Actually you said:

"unplug the MAF and run without with until you get a replacement."

So thats why I asked the question. What you wrote made it seem like it would be prudent to run without a MAF, use MAP instead, until there was a replacement piece.
