Misfiring
2000 2.7T, 81K miles. Car sat mostly idle for about 6 weeks in a body shop for side repairs. While there, developed serious misfire. According to VAG COM, Cylinders 1,4,and 5 are not firing. Checked plugs, they look okay, but have not gone beyond that yet. Car vibrates badly on mild acceleration. Car seems to smooth out in kickdown but has very ovbious loss of power. Seems to cruise okay with little sign of misfire unless I apply pedal. Before I begin to dig in, has anyone experienced this, or are there any suggestions out there? Are there any other VAG COM tests I can run?

Try switching the coil packs around and see if the misses follow the coils.
You can do the same with the power output stages. There are two of those, but I don't remember the particulars on which one services which cylinders.
If it turns out to be a POS, order a Huco part online. They're substantially cheaper than OEM parts.
Cheers,

Thanks for the reply. I played the switch game with the two Power Output Stages and the problem follows. Good indication one is bad. You mention POS. I have to ask: what does that mean? Also, do you have an email address for Huco? Thanks, Gene

POS = Power Output Stage. You can pick one up at the dealer easily enough....
but the Huco parts that you can find online are cheaper. ECS used to sell them, but I don't see them listed there anymore.
Anyone know of a place selling Huco POS parts?

BTW...don't forget the heat sink paste.
Between the POS and the metal biscuit on top of the air cleaner housing you should put a thin film of heat sink compound (get it at RadioShack for a few bucks). It helps transfer heat from the POS to that little metal slug which is cooled by the intake air.

That seems odd to me...
According to Bentley, one POS should be driving bank 1 (cyls 1, 2, &3) and the other should drive bank 2 (cyls 4, 5, & 6). If the problem followed the POS as you suggest, then it sounds like both are bad. Am I missing something?
I'm asking because I'm having misfires, too, but all on cyls 1, 2, & 3 which suggested a POS to me. Want to make sure my analysis makes sense....

Brought up Huco Auto parts in Google, and it dropped me into ThePartsBin.Com. I found most of the ignition parts, but had to ask a question regarding what I believe to be the POS. Price is just over $200. I have used this place before and they provide OEM parts.

Re: That seems odd to me...
I agree. It's odd. Good possibility my problem may be plugs, or a combo of plugs, coil, or coil extension. I'm replacing the plugs and extensions first. They need it anyway. We'll see what happens there before going further.
