I've seen plugs make a world of difference on a sputtering 1.8t...
But it could also be a number of things....
Try to get to a VAG-COM and see what codes you're throwing.
You could have a boost leak. And might want to get it pressure tested. 02 sensors can cause problems too.

How are your EGTs? mine missfired at high RPM and never got a CEL and it turned out to be
the EGTs.
Not sure how to test them. I just bought new sensors. but they get pretty expensive. Cheapest i heard was $200 or so, ever since then i have a spare set around.
have you VAG-ed the car? what codes do you get?
