More than likely it's your secondary air pump. Located top middle of firewall, makes high pitch sound on startup. Tech archieve has repair writeup.

Default when boosting? turbos are starting to go. mine are the same.

if it sounds like a dentist drill then it's the turbos giving up. mine have been like that for 5k.

Sorry if took me so long to respond. It is not when boosting it is just in the morning. I will check the codes and let you know.
Thanks

Default Did you find the source - currious to know the outcome

mine did as you describe, so I decided it was time to upgrade before a complete turbo failure (passenger side turbo turbine shaft had excessive play [movement])

Default My High-Pitched Sound was the Tiptronic Eating Itself (Apparently)

I'm late to this party but I'd like to add:

New trans in = whiny/whistling gone.

Just my $0.02. YMMV.

I had a high pitched sound in my 2000 S4 tip @ 61K. was the secondary air injection pump.

If during a cold start, and it lasts for about 30 sec, it's the secondary air injection pump.
