Default Occasional no read from temp guage

So, back in Feb., after changing the oil, I pulled the engine covers and hit the whole thing top and bottom with some degreaser (top was mostly just dust, but a lower oil leak had oil everywhere) rinsed the whole thing down. ABout a week later, the wife commented, and then I noticed that the engine temp guage will either take forever to get up to temp or will not move at all. Sometimes, you can drive the car for 20 minutes, it will be fully warmed, shut it off, then restart it and the guage will start reading.

ANy thoughts, where is the sending unit located, could I have gotten water in it or is it possibly just failing? Haven't had any engine codes yet.

Default Sending unit is on the crossover pipe behind the passenger bank.

Look down below the MAF. I believe this is a pretty common failure.
