Default Oil suggestions for Montana Allroad

Hey, new member and new Allroad owner. I recently bought a 2003 Allroad with 67000 miles. I want to change the oil to synthetic but am not sure what to get for the winter. It gets cold here and the car will be parked outside all winter. It may see temperatures ranging from 55 to -30. I want these turbos to last as long as possible. Anything else I should look at to make the car cold weather ready? Thanks in advance.

0W-40, for sure. it's actually one of the recommended oils.
also, replace your PCV system, as it'll clog in temps that low if it has any oil/moisture in it.

Default Positive Crankcase Ventilation

It deals with vapors (including water vapor) from the crank case and valve train. When it gets plugged up, pressure builds and oil starts leaking past gaskets, especially the valve cover gaskets.

0w30 is also recommended, but my NAPA only had 3 quarts of it, compared to 400 quarts of the 0W40.

Check on the allroad forum and especially the B5-S4 2000-2002 forum for lots of good stuff about the 2.7t. The engine forum seems to be a little slow.

Welcome aboard-it's good to hear from another Montana allroader!

Search for "spider hose" and you'll come up with some info.

There are some links in this discussion:

order a spider hose

if you aren't comfortable, have an independent mechanic replace it for you

One more quick question. The dealer said my cam adjuster seals were starting to "sweat", How long until this can be a concern? What would the cost of a repair be? I bought the car from the dealer 2 weeks ago and I don't know how much they will help me out money wise on repairs. Thanks.
