Default Put in chipped ecu...now I have problems :(

Well I purchased a ECU from a fellow enthusiast with the 3 GIAC programs (stock, performance 91-93 ct., & race 100+ ect.) which came from a working car.

The car really pulls hard & is crazy fast now, but it seems like it's cutting fuel @ 4-5K rpm then kicks back in, sometimes it kicks in & out & in & out. Before & after that rpm range it pulls like a ****.

here are my mods to help narrow down & tonight I am gonna go to a friends who has a ross-tech vag-com to see if there's any stored codes & to switch to the stock program to see if it still does it.

-Just put in new plugs
-K&N drop-in filter
-710N diverters

I am still yet to remove & inspect the TBB & the accordion tube from the airbox to mani, I did briefly look at them & they seemed fine.

All this started immediately after swapping out my stock ecu & yes I gave the car time to do the TB adaption. I am gonna try switching to the stock program tonight & if it still does it I will swap my stock ecu back in to see what happens then, but I wanted to get some opinions & ideas of what else to check tonight.

thanks,

-Paul

Default do you have a boost gauge?

sounds like a boost leak.

also, try putting your stock air filter back in and put the K&N in the trash.

Default When you chip your car, the new software is much more sensitive than the factory system

It picks up CEL much earlier and spits them out for user interpretation.

Honestly, every time I hear a problem about hesitation under WOT I always assume its EGTs.
Get the car checked with a Vag-Com and then see what codes it spits out.

By the way, what year is your car?

Hooked it up to my friends ross-tech vag-com last night & it had no codes at all.

My car is a 2001 w/tiptronic trans.

I have been looking for a boost gauge but I can't find a pod, but I am getting to the point to where I'll just tape it to the dash.

I changed to the "stock" program last night & I can mash the 'ish out of the accelerator & it doesn't miss a beat, it's Silky Smooth.

I switched it back to "pump" (91-93 oct.) & it is eff'd up again

Default you sure it's in pump and not race mode?

also, still say that means you have a boost leak.

Yeah, I used GIAC's flashloader to switch it.

My friend thinks it's the trans freaking out, not slipping, but trying to shift too early & then freaking out

Default Re: tiptronic?

Yeah, it's a tiptronic.

This weekend my friend is gonna do the "sport mode" mod via vag-com for me & then I am gonna put a degree colder plug with .28 gap & check the hoses for any cracks, tears or loose connections.

Default well, part of it might be the tiptronic part. I think you'll need to get a tip chip

in order to keep it from going crazy with its shifting.
