Question re piggies
<center><img src="http://vastperformance.com/images/piggies_web.jpg"></center><p>
Hey there all, I usually hang out at the A6 and New England forums. Have a question for you twin turbo owners. I have a 2001 A6 2.7T 6mt.
Yes I have searched the forum, yes I have looked at Stoney's Links.
Here is the issue: I've been dreaming about more power. (Mmmmmmmmmmmm, horsepower....) I already have the GIAC Flash with bipipe, 710's snub, etc. All of which I absolutely love. The car pulls strong.
But, well, you know how the mod bug works... Anyway, I have been thinking about piggie pipes from VAST. The thing is, that I do not want to add a pricy, loud after market exhaust to my sleek, stately, (ahem) grownup A6 (sleeper). Maybe if I was 20, but I am old dammit. Not only can I not afford a Miltek or a APR, but I also do not want to risk a custom Magnaflow welded jobbie. This brings me to my questions:
Are there 2.7T folks out there who have added piggies and kept the stock exhaust? Is there benefit to such a set up? Is the stock exhaust too restrictive to provide HP/torque increase with just hollowed out pre cats? Also, will adding piggies change the exhaust note/sound? I hear that you can hear the turbos spool better. Any feedback is much appreciated. I also may cross post to the 2.7T forum as well as the B5 S4 forum..
Thanks in advance!

answers to your questions: yes, yes, most likely, yes
reducing restriction can only help, especially since giac programming loves more flow
personally, if I were you, I'd get on youtube and start listening to exhausts - most of them really only get loud when you nail it, and at that point, you want loud anyway, since everyone's behind you

I've overdosed on youtube
I watched it so much last night that both my eyeballs popped out of my head and rolled under the sofa. It took me 20 minutes of begging to get them back in (and even then they were covered with dust bunnies)
Seriously, I dont want to buy and after market exhaust (all my $ is tied up in petty cash)...
Do you think it is worth it to just go with the piggies bolted up to the stock set up?

assuming your emission tests are code checks only, you should be fine with piggies and anti-foulers.
if they do a tail sniffer, it's a little harder, but it should be passable. pretty sure come cali cars have passed with them.
