Quickaudi - the engine mounts cured the vibration! And a somewhat amusing side note: I took the
car in to the dealer for the repair as I didn't want to mess with it and had no way to support the drivetrain - anyway I told them to simply replace the mounts - nothing more. The tech noted that "the engine movement is not improved after R&Ring the mounts, well, maybe slight improvement". This indicated to me that they really didn't like being told what to do and not being given the chance to run up hours "properly diagnosing" the issue. Too bad for them this fixed it the 1st time with minimal expenditure! Thanks again for your help and ideas!

I saw nothing...
seriously man, you did all the work.
I just agreed because there was nothing else that it could be. I'm actually working on a similar shudder issue on a 2.slow at the moment, though I think we have it mostly resolved...
I love these cars.

Having an intelligent discussion always helps me to make sure I am not forgetting something basic.
Many times one gets used to the problem being something obscure such that you can overlook the simple fixes...not wanting to actually call myself out or anything, you understand. My point was more of an FYI so that if anyone has this issue, it may help them. I don't think that the tech even noticed the vibration - but with an empty aluminum can in the cup holder, it becomes obvious of the vibration and then the lack thereof once it has been eliminated. :^)
