regarding k04 turbo upgrade

Default regarding k04 turbo upgrade

I know I am working backwards but i have 95k on my turbos (C5) and i need to buy new ones (before they leak). I heard its more reliable than rebuilding them. What other hardware is necessary for OEM K04 replacements?

I have found a thread of posts regarding the turbos and since I am careful to warm them up every time I am no longer afraid of leakage. I only started cooling them down very recently and I have had her since 50442. I am almost at 94k and I believe in preventative maintenance, but had no idea about cooling. I changed the clutch and timing belt wayy before I might have had problems with it (60k). This clutch lasts forever if you treat it right. I rarely go over 3000 RPM and never go over 4000. So I guess I will wait off the K04 upgrade until I can actually afford it.

So let me rephrase my question: What is the chain of events once the turbo starts to leak?

there's a lot of info about this question in the archives, and it really depends on how far you want to go with the motor
