Default What are your thoughts on oil-leak stop additives for the engine?

My 01 S4 is experiencing all the common oil leak problems from the engine bay, and I really don't want to fork out the $1300 my mechanic wants for repairing the seals -- I'm not planning on having the car for long. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with any of the stop-leak products? Seems they work by softening the gaskets and allowing them to expand a bit to reseal problem spots. Bearin' seal was recommended on some non-audi forums -- but given the oil also his the turbo's I wasn't sure how safe they were.

Thanks,
reza

There are lots of small diameter oil passage ways in the 2.7l biturbo including the turbocharger, piston cooling jets, camshaft timing adjusters and others. I would sell it as is or fix it properly. My friend's shop had an Allroad with two engine replacements due to an error in not changing an old contaminated oil cooler on a new rebuilt engine--that was an $8000 mistake by the insurance company's shop.
